Tradie Tax Deduction Estimator

Tradie Tax Deduction Estimator

Tally up the work-related things you might be able to claim, and see a rough idea of how much tax that could save you. It’s a ballpark, not gospel — the ATO and your tax agent have the final say.

1. Tick off what applies and pop in a $ amount

Only fill in the boxes that apply to you. Leave the rest blank. Use what you actually spent over the year (and keep your receipts).

2. Your approximate marginal tax rate

Not sure? Check your rate at ato.gov.au.

Before you bank on it — the important bits

  • This is an estimate only. It assumes every dollar you entered is fully claimable. Real life is fiddlier.
  • The ATO sets the rules on what you can claim and how. Pricier tools might need to be claimed over several years (depreciation) rather than written off in one go, and anything used for both work and private life (like your phone or car) can usually only be claimed for the work-use portion.
  • You generally need records. Keep your receipts, invoices and a logbook or diary where it applies — no proof, no claim.
  • A registered tax agent can make sure you claim everything you’re entitled to and nothing you’re not. Their fee is usually deductible too.
